Bumps of Olden Days

The ‘Bumps and Carnage’ rowing races have been held each year since 1827. Ditton Corner has featured in many of the images of bygone days.

Here's our latest find, a photograph of the crowds watching the Bumps at Ditton Corner on 10 June 1905, sold as a postcard, and posted on 12 June - the Monday after the Bumps - by one of the people in the photograph.

William Henderson (W.L.H.) sketches out where he is in the photograph, together with the companions in his boat, to send to his mother in Hampstead.

Any further information about these individuals would be gratefully received.

Miss Williams; Miss Peel; a bow-tied W.L.H.; (another) Miss Williams; the rakish 'Murray'; and Miss Gaze.
